Cardiff Libraries and Hubs participates in the ‘Gadgeteers’ Summer Reading Challenge

Free activities and events launching  9th July 2022

This summer, children in Cardiff aged 4 to 11 can visit their local library to take part in a Summer Reading Challenge with a theme of science and innovation. There are stickers and prizes to be won, plus a certificate and medal if they can complete the Challenge!

By taking part in the Challenge, with free materials from your library and online through the Reading Challenge website, children will be able to join in with six brilliant Gadgeteers. The characters – made alive by author and children’s illustrator Julian Beresford – use their curiosity and ability to marvel to understand the science behind a whole range of interests, from fashion and technology, to cooking and music.

It’s time to be stunned by incredible facts and inspired by stories of creativity and ingenuity! Through a collection of exciting books and activities to follow, the Gadgeteers will help to engage children’s curiosity about the world around them, and encourage them to feed their imagination during the summer. With plenty of great choices across picture books, early readers, and intermediate books, there is loads of material to keep children busy.

Check out our events listings to see what’s happening across the city.

The Summer Reading Challenge is produced by The Reading Agency and delivered in partnership with libraries.
